He’d got his eye on the House Mites but decided that trying to catch them one at a time was much too much like hard work.

Also, he’d never actually caught a House Mite before – let alone eaten one – and he longed to do so.

They looked so delicious with their fat juicy bodies and countless crunchy legs.

“One would be an amuse-bouche.” he mused licking his lips. “But ten (or let’s say twenty) in one mouthful would be…

…cat gastronomy!”

But how to catch twenty or more in one go?

“I need to set a trap,” he thought craftily, and his yellow eyes narrowed to slits as he thought…

“Now where’s that rat Ratty?”

Ratty was skulking about in the shed when Crankworth found him.

Immediately, he ran to hide but Crankworth was too quick for him and flattened him to the floor with his paw.

“Don’t worry Ratty, you’re too scrawny to eat right now but if you catch me some House-Mites, I’ll share them with you… just a few to fatten you up.”

The idea of catching a few House Mites cheered Ratty up no end so he waited patiently while Crankworth found a large cardboard box and explained his plan.

“I’ll chase the House Mites into the box then you shut the lid.”

Ratty nodded. Any plan was better than being eaten and besides, he was sure Crankworth would let him have one or two….maybe even more?

They were ready. It was a simple plan and most probably it would have worked if it were not for one thing…

Katie.

Katie had come into the shed to mend the table and had overheard what Crankworth was saying. It made her boil with anger.

But she said nothing, went back to the kitchen and waited.

It didn’t take long before Ratty appeared carrying the large cardboard box and it didn’t take long either for Crankworth to appear chasing the House Mites.

Closer and closer the House Mites got to the large cardboard box when suddenly..

Katie catapulted through the air with hands and feet outstretched.

“HAA-WHAA!” she shouted at the top of her voice. “Don’t you DARE lay a paw on those House Mites!”

Ratty all but jumped out of his scrawny skin and instead of boxing-up the House Mites, he panicked and in doing so, boxed-up one big striped pussycat.

Ratty then just dropped the large cardboard box upside-down and RAN!

Crankworth was trapped. “You are a VERY BAD PUSSY CAT!” scolded Katie and karate-kicked the box with Crankworth inside.

“YES! A very bad pussy-cat!” copied the House Mites and joined in as well.

When Katie decided Crankworth had learned his lesson, she let him out. “If you EVER chase those little House Mites again remember this…. I’ll be watching!” she warned.

Crankworth promised he wouldn’t and high-tailed it back to the shed where he found Ratty. “I have a new plan,” he said licking his lips.

“Ratty… you climb into the box and wait… Then leave it to ME to decide on lunch.
